It
had been a while since Michael, Susan and Rebecca had visited Mother.
So this visit was an opportunity to not only see her but also Andrew and
Carolyn and, as it turned out, Jonathan as well. We spent time
both in Collierville and Jackson, getting a very nice family portrait in
the process. As it turns out, one trait that that Mother shared
with not only Susan but also Rebecca was a love of gardening and plants.
So it was with some interest and a degree of satisfaction that I
recorded their exploits as Rebecca, Susan and Mother pored over bulbs
and dug up

choice
ones for Rebecca's garden back home. Part of the continuity of
life is that those bulbs Mother gave to Rebecca are still bearing
flowers in Virginia, even as the single Rose of Sharon clipping Susan
took from Mema's farm before she passed away has now become a veritable
forest in our back yard in Virginia.
