Over
the years, Mother and I had shared a strong interest in Flake and Wilson
family genealogy -- an interest also shared by our cousin Billy Ringold.
Mother had done quite a bit of research, and I had added a little of my
own during a brief visit to the genealogy library at McKenzie one
afternoon years ago. In recent years, Billy shared a number of
War Between the States letters and other priceless family artifacts with
me, and I thought it would be a good idea to
visit with him and exchange information regarding family genealogy.
Since Susan and I attend a major tennis tournament every year, we
thought it might be possible to combine the tennis trip with a visit to
Billy. This would also be an opportunity to pay our respects at Mother's grave
site, which we had not seen since she passed away.
Not
only did Billy agree to a genealogy meeting, but he arranged for two people very knowledgeable on family genealogy to be there
as well, Mary Ann Gray and Angie Bartholomew.
After a memory lane photo tour of downtown Huntingdon, we spent the
better part of an afternoon at Clarksburg getting the benefit of Mary
Ann's years of extensive research into the Wilson family. We came
away with scans of many priceless family photos provided by Mary Ann,
Angie and Billy. We had already gotten photos of Blair Cemetery,
but Mary Ann and Angie told us about other ancestors who were buried
elsewhere. So after we broke up Susan and I stopped at Sellers
Hill Cemetery to visit the grave site of George Washington Johnson and
Hamilton Cemetery to visit the site of many, many Chambers ancestors.
We came home with much new information, and some new family friends.
