At
the suggestion of Andrew, the brothers and wives gathered for the first
ever vacation together not associated with a trip to the family home in
Jackson. The appointed meeting place was at Dillard, a resort in
mountainous north Georgia. On the way there we (Susan, Rebecca,
Michael) stopped at Biltmore, the Vanderbilt mansion near Ashville, North
Carolina. It was the first time we had all

been together in each other's presence for many years. It was
a wonderful experience. We had several meals together, played board games, and sat
around and caught up on family matters until all hours. We spent
time in one of the local tourist towns shopping and then turned our
attention to the surrounding wilderness. The mountainous area of
south Georgia is known for waterfalls so we visited several of those,
including Tallulah Gorge State Park. Some of us hiked all the way
to the bottom, while others took short cuts. This visit was to
serve as the model for future family gatherings, a way for the families
of the three brothers to get together without necessarily meeting in
Jackson.
